Christine Pearson

Having admired Jessica’s work for several years I looked forward to attending a workshop with her at Conference this year.

Her work incorporates different ways of texturing and enamelling metal, combining techniques to create patterns and effects. The group was able to handle some of her many samples as well as finished pieces.

We were going to work on copper and Jessica demonstrated a variety of ways a resist could be applied, ready for etching. Looking at examples she explained that the etching needed to be deeper if you were going to enamel afterwards. She recommended using copper sheet at least 0.9mm thick and etching to 0.4mm deep. The copper for all our samples was degreased using pumice powder and a green scourer, rinsed, and carefully dried, without touching the surface.
