Ilona Furrokh

After several failed attempts Annie made it to Cumbria to share her workshop on all things long, thin and glassy. She brought with her an array of rods, stringers and hand pulled threads made from various glasses which essentially were of a similar COE to vitreous enamels. There are several suppliers within the UK from which you can purchase these (see below).

Annie's techniques often combine hard and soft enamels with threads/stringers high fired. Like opaque enamels, sometimes the threads lose their colour and become transparent or even iridescent, at these higher temperatures. Annie will fire up to 950°C but checks at intervals as the heat rises. Like enamels, most reds burn out, so apply these stringers/threads last.
