A Look into Plique a Jour with Melvyn Jennings
Christine Pearson
It is always an inspiration to try different enamelling techniques and during conference this year I spent the day being introduced to Plique-a-Jour with Melvyn Jennings.
Melvyn started by showing us the first piece of Plique-a-Jour he ever did. Then several later, beautifully crafted pieces with delicate colours, which came to life when held up to the light.
We had all brought some transparent enamels to use. We started by grinding the grains in a pestle and mortar to a caster sugar size before washing several times and a final rinse in distilled water. We also degreased the silver using a brass brush and soapy water.
