During a workshop in February, Christine Williams decided to experiment with raku firing a thin vessel made from copper shim. Dorothy, the tutor, was doubtful if it would work on such thin metal as so much heat would be lost between the kiln and the container. However it was very successful, so we now know that you don't need the copper to be weighty for the technique to work, but you do need a big enough container to avoid more delicate items getting crushed!
