Audrey Wythe

Being fascinated by Diana East's bead making at last year's Conference, when I saw that Elise Mann was holding a glass bead making (using a kiln) tutorial this year, I immediately signed up for it.

Naturally it was totally different!

I did learn a lot, including the fact that if has a hole in it, it is called a bead regardless of size.

Elise was very interesting to listen to and explained the technique so that we could all understand it. The 4 most important things I learned were:

  1. The glass used must all have the same COE (Co-efficient of Expansion) so that it expands and contracts on heating and cooling to the same degree or it will eventually crack.

  2. The use of beautiful dichroic glass.

  3. Your kiln should have a temperature gauge and -

  4. Patience.
