1994 AGM/CONF. WORKSHOP WITH CORA MUDDELL

Jill Leventon

Cora had kindly stepped in at the last minute to take the workshop, for which we were all very grateful.

She had meticulously prepared lots of samples which excited us with the depth of colour and range of effects it is possible to achieve with this method. Unfortunately, as Cora was quick to point out, results can be unpredictable and unrepeatable, but that's an aspect of enamelling that appeals to me, and I feel the results far outweigh the possible 'failure' rate.

Unexpectedly, the techniques Cora introduced us to start with involved several firings at low temperatures, with just the final firing being high (about 100°C above the manufacturers' recommendations). It should also be noted that high does not mean long - increase the temperature, not the length of firing.
