Controlled Enamelling with Richard Casey
Kathleen Kay
Richard has presented his methods on Controlled Enamelling to so many people now that is a wonder that our exhibitions aren’t full of mock 'KC’s', Lowrey’s and decorative fish. His personal styles, fluent designs and large feature bowls attract full tutorials year after year.
The aim of the three methods demonstrated by Richard is to control and keep colours separate using a drawn line, rather than by a constructed wall, as in cloisonné. The means of achieving this is to produce a line that rejects the spread of wet packed colours. The simplest method is to draw directly onto a pre-enamelled workpiece, using a blue or black, permanent, spirit-based marker pen, (e.g. Pentel 50 broad pointed, Pentel 60 large chisel shaped), or a permanent microtip (designated in point sizes.) for finer work.
