One of my favourite means of ensuring that students, working with dry enamel powders, achieve complete control in the early stages of sifting, is their use of opaque powders, fine, commercially etched stencils and an assortment of sieves.

The etched stencils that I have collected over the years can be bought from good artists' and stationery shops, craft shops, or cake decorating art shops. They are made of very thin metal allowing fine, accurate masking and, being firm, are strong enough to be lifted without scattering the surplus powder.
