Stencils with Betty Butler – Tutorial AGM 1992
Beryl Ball
Betty showed us how she used her “jig-saw” stencil system which enables a large part of her flower pictures to be made in one firing. She works from her own photographs and quick pastel sketches, then traces her designs.
In Betty's demonstration a breakfast cereal packet provided the stencil card, and her tracing was transferred on to it. This was placed on a cutting mat and, using a craft knife, small triangles were cut from the card, overlapping two of the corners of the design, in order to see - and line up - the edge of the design on the stencil with the edge of the enamel underneath.
