Kathleen Kay’s Tutorial on Swirling – AGM 1992
Julie Higgins
It seems a bit of a cheek to write a report on Kathleen Kay's method of swirling, as Kathleen herself has written about it in the Journal before, and much better, I'm sure, than I could. Nevertheless, having been browbeaten by our esteemed Editor to do so, I’ll see if I can possibly add anything to what Kath has told us all before.
The first thing that Kath requires at her tutorials is, as she kept telling us, a sense of humour! All of us who were there with Kath - Peter Hutton-Attenborough, Harold Killingback, Stella Curry, Sheila Day, and I - managed to hold on to this important ingredient, even when disasters threatened to tip the balance. But under Kath's calm and constantly friendly guidance, we all got through the day and had both a good and productive time.
The workshop was originally to be for beginners, but most of us had some experience at least. For my part, I had come to Kath to learn the rudiments of the way she does her beautiful swirling. I’ll try to let you into some of the basic secrets.
