A Column for Absolute Beginners – Use of Decoration Media
Bonnie Mackintosh
Welcome back! and on to your next decoration technique; the Use of Decoration Media.
Those of you who have done any enamelling in school (horrors!) or at Youth Clubs, etc., will recognize the small lumps, beads, "threads" etc., of glass which are known as " decoration media". There are a great variety of these, available from enamelling suppliers (see advertisements in the Journal). We will concern ourselves with the "opaque" varieties for the present. If ordering decoration media, opaque lumps, beads, and threads in a mixture of colours will give plenty of scope.
Although this is a technique suitable for complete beginners, the skill lies in creating harmony in colour and line (not such an easy task!). This technique can be used in conjunction with the previous decoration techniques (Pencil Drawing, Sgraffito, Scrolling).
