The Editor was delighted that Harriet St Leger repeated much of her Conference workshop for Region 3/4 because a promised account from a participant at Conference never materialised.

At Conference, other design suggestions we received included:

Start simple, as you can add bits or take them away later until you have something that pleases you;

Cut a design into several pieces/strips and rearrange them to create a new design.

The Conference workshop began with the drawing exercise. Harriet arranged a simple jar of flowers and foliage and we drew them without once looking at our paper. It felt rather like taking our pencils for a walk with our eyes shut, except that they were firmly fixed on the subject. The results varied, some resembled the subject more or less and others owed more to the ‘rolling English drunkard’.
