Keeping a Secret.....
Kathleen Kay
.....a perfect incentive to improve observational stalls, plus hard and eye co-ordination, while enyoying summer periods too hot to have the kiln on.
Several college colleagues, who have returned to education part-time are timid about sketching, drawing and designing yet are quite happy to learn new skills with computers, enamelling equipment, sewing machines or languages. It's almost as if the words “I can't draw" form an insurmountable barrier to be endured for life.

So, what are the barriers that need to be overcome?
- Not having drawn for ages – then a little practice is needed, it's only like writing pictures instead of scribbling illegibly.
- Timid about being seen - then do some sketches in the house
in the garden, when you are on your own. - Lacking confidence that your drawing is as good as you'd like - then keep it secret until you are more satisfied: anyway, a sketchbook is mainly for reference - a sort of graphic notebook, not a gallery-if it reminds you, it's good enough.
- No time to draw or sketch – then make time – just a few minutes.
