Following on from 2001 Winter Journal, some of the textured work described has since been fired. 3D forms are easily de-greased using an old toothbrush and a spot of Ajax Cream Cleanser, followed by a rinse of water.

My favourite method for enamelling shim is to first use a base coat of either Ball's Wet Process Flux or Milton Bridge LF98 Liquid Flux, though liquid whites or colours could be used if preferred.

The wet enamel should be well shaken before opening the container; if the liquid in the upper part of the mixture is like creamy milk, then this can be used directly from the jar. I favour giving the whole lot a good stir with a table fork until it's smooth and creamy, then pouring a little out into a suitable pot. This small quantity can be diluted with a little purified water, avoiding contamination of the stock jar.
