After a recent demonstration of the technique of wet white sgraffito, on a 4" square of copper, I ended up with a fairy castle, in beautiful shades of green and gold. Within a couple of days, I learnt that the theme for our local arts festival is “Dudley Art Week is going green”. Opportunistically, it seemed that this demonstration piece might as well be the starting point of my first entry for our art group’s exhibition.

The castle reminded me of the story time home of the usual beautiful princess, so I decided to surround the 4" square with a framework of varied deep green squares, some with stencilled leaves, others softly textured and more suggesting long grass. The surrounding squares were 2" and 1" and, glued in place in the lower right hand corner, was a mottled green/gold frog.

My idea was that the central featured square should illustrate the frog's dream of becoming a prince - if only he could find his princess etc....
