The workshop was held in Dartington Hall near Totnes, several of us stayed in the area, for anyone doing the same in future there is a lovely campsite at Dartington which has several ‘glamping pods’. The site is a short walk from the workshops and is very reasonably priced.

Using pewter to mount enamel pieces has many advantages. It’s much easier to work with than silver (no soldering!), it doesn’t leave green stains on the skin so can be used for earrings as well as brooches and pendants. Pewter can be polished with Brasso to a lovely shiny surface. The only minor disadvantage is that, because it’s so soft, it’s not a good idea to throw pewter backed pieces into a jewellery box with other items – they will likely get scratched.
