18 members met at Edinburgh for a 2 day engraving workshop with Angus McFadyen, who gave such a memorable masterclass at conference 2017.
TOOLS
We began by looking at a standard tool, the square graver. This is essentially a square section tool that is used with one edge against the metal to cut an outline. The two faces either side of the cutting edge should be cut to give a comfortable working angle from the horizontal, usually about 15°. Both faces must be cut at the same angle and polished to move easily over the working surface. The cutting face should be cut at 45° and also polished.
