Harriet St Leger ably led this workshop day with 13 attendees. The day was most enjoyable, relaxed and instructive.
We all brought along photocopied designs and were shown how to transfer the photocopy from the design on paper onto a piece of fine Riso screen by using the heat from a Riso heat transfer machine. This enabled fine-ground enamel to penetrate through the screen, following the design. The screen was then taped into a cardboard cut-out frame.
Harriet brought along pieces of 1mm copper sheet and once cleaned, these were back-enamelled and then enamelled in 2-3 layers to provide a background colour for the main design. By holding the Riso frame down against the enamelled copper, the next enamel colour was ‘combed’ through the screen using a credit card so that the design appeared in a contrasting colour onto the pre-enamelled background. This was then fired and could be repeated in different but complimentary coloured layers as desired.
