My first time at conference with no idea of what the weekend would hold, but what a truly awesome and inspiring weekend it turned out to be. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and the tutorial with Sarah gave me new insights into ways in which I could develop design techniques into my enamelling.
We started the day by introducing ourselves and were asked what we hoped to get out of the day. I for one was looking at how I could develop my enamelling skills, especially in being able to get some ideas about designing a piece as I really had no idea where to start.
We began the tutorial with movement. Moving not only our whole arm creating large ‘S shapes on large pieces of paper but continuing the movement flowing into circles, swirls, creating zigzags. This helped us to loosen up our drawing arm and to put us in the right frame of mind to look at developing design. Sarah handed out some sheets of black card and we were asked to cut out window shapes: square, oblong, oval, triangular, whatever shape we wanted. We then looked at the source material we had brought with us and had to choose one picture.
