Region 4 Salop/ Staffs Group Meeting
Mark and Anne Painter
On Saturday 15th October, the Salop/Staffs group was fortunate to have Evangeline Long giving a talk on her work. She had prepared a display of pieces ranging from test pieces to finished panels.
She explained to the group how she tested her enamels. She uses three separated variables in her work;
1. thickness of copper
2. thickness of enamel
3. temperature of kiln.
To demonstrate this Van had brought three pieces that had been fired, side by side, in her kiln. The copper ranged from thick to thin and each had the same amount of enamel on it. The examples had been fired at a temperature of 840°C. This experiment will vary between kilns as no two kilns will fire in exactly the same way and also will vary between gas and electric kilns due to the nature of the way the heat is produced.
