This is an abridged version of the article in 'Glass on Metal' referred to by Dennis Davis.
The equipment required is:
-
a l/16"stainless steel welding rod (the mandrel);
-
a propane torch (the kind with a replaceable cylinder, available at any DIY store); (Dennis Davies uses a butane one.)
-
⅛” copper tubing;
-
mandrel release sludge {Dennis Davis suggests this)
-
enamel flux;
-
lump enamel;
-
a knife to push the hot bead off the welding rod;
-
a small container of water to cool the knife and the end of the welding rod;
-
a place to put the hot bead - he used a metal pie tin.
