At the 1997 Conference/AGM enamel panels by Galiah Amit attracted a great deal of favourable comment and she agreed to write about her work for the Journal.

"I am fascinated by water, flowing and still, its movement, depth and reflection. Basse-taille is a technique which enables me to capture some of the qualities of water in enamelling.

Basse-taille is shallow etching copper or silver, enamelled with transparent enamels and then stoned down until the raised bits of the copper are exposed again.

The design elements are created by the different depths.
