In part I of this short series I outlined the techniques of sgraffitoing in liquid enamels and what is needed. Now get started with your white.

The right consistency of the enamel is vital and is best described as that of pouring (single) cream. Stir it up thoroughly and add a little purified or filtered water if it needs thinning.

Application to the Copper

The copper must be clean and absolutely grease free if the liquid is to spread evenly - a final scouring with a little of the enamel itself on a damp cloth will ensure all dirt is removed.

The liquid enamel can be applied with a spatula, quill, dropper or even brush, according to preference, but must be put on quickly before it starts drying.
