Feedback - Metal Thickness and the Use of Nitric Acid
Edmund Mabow of the Coburger Emailrundbrief
In your Summer Journal Jill Leventon said there had been no feedback from her earlier articles - so now here is one.
It is impossible to comment on all of her triumphs and disasters, so I will comment on two points - the thickness of the metal and the use of nitric acid.
Thickness:
The thickness of the enamelled piece depends on the shape, the area and the purity of the silver being used. You can have the same area, say 10 sq.cm in two different shapes - one could be a flat strip 2x5cm and the second a square about 3x3cm. In the first case the silver must be thicker than in the second. I would say for the first case you must use 1.5mm thickness and for the second 0.8mm should be enough
