Bridging the Boundaries
Kathleen Kay
This summer four brave, hardworking students in my evening class successfully completed the C&G Enamelling on Copper Course. All four are now Guild members and are well able to further explore, experiment and develop their personal styles.
The C&G Creative Skills courses each provide a thorough introduction to a chosen craft for adults having available only around three hours each week to attend college, but having spare time that can be enjoyed at home in completing design work, writing up notes, and trying out practical skills. Lots of subject areas are available, including wood turning, french polishing, photography, floristry, fashion, interior decoration, upholstery, patchwork & quilting and embroidery. Hopefully, more centres will find tutors who can teach enamelling on copper. Over the last few years my one-day enamelling workshops have attracted City & Guilds embroiderers from other colleges and universities. Students were keen to include small pieces of enamel and worked copper foil in their projects.
