Honeycomb bowl
- Exhibition: Online Exhibition 2025
- Description of your entry: This was an experiment, and a learning curve! The inside has a base layer of SOJE 30 Yellow, which goes a lovely red when high-fired, which was fired first. A layer of Schauer 203 Soft White was carved, then covered with a thin layer of Thomson 1020 Titanium White, and fired together. The outside was then done with a layer of SOJE 1 Copper Flux fired first, then covered by WG Ball Yellow wet process and fired upside down. As the bowl was fired upside down at a high temperature, the inside flowed down to make an impressive mountainous rim which had to be chipped off and stoned back. It was then fired the right way up giving very pleasing results: a white lacy pattern over orangey-red round the bottom of the bowl while the 2 whites inside have reacted giving lovely green colours breaking through. On the outside the yellow wet process has broken up over the SOJE 1 leaving a lacey or honeycomb pattern.
