New Designers
On Friday 4 July 2026, our judges will be returning to New Designers to select the recipient of this year’s Emerging Maker Award. We’ll be on the lookout for students working with enamel and pushing the boundaries of technique, creativity, and craftsmanship. If you’re exhibiting enamel work at New Designers, we can’t wait to see what you’ve created.
Last year we were delighted to present our Emerging Maker award to Mary Wignall Strachan. The judges were impressed by her experimental approach to enamelling and the sensitivity of her mark making.
Mary's collection “Rooted in Chaos” represents the complexities of human interaction and the order and chaos of communication. Mary experimented with hair and enamel. Although more commonly found in ceramics, Raku is an instant and intuitive process, both unique and innovative where no two designs are the same.
