Description of your entry:
Bass Rock which sits just off the East Lothian coastline is home to the world's largest colony of northern gannets; from afar it is undulating and seethes with life. In stark juxtaposition, the bodies of unlucky gannets often lie along the shoreline of the beach on the mainland. Using forms inspired by these birds, ‘Backbone’ explores this juxtaposition and seeks to find beauty in decomposition and the returning to the earth. The glossy stencilled components which form the upper layer of the necklace sit above a layer of matte white and textured silver components- a reference to the textural articulation which abounds along this varied and dynamic stretch of the Scottish coastline.
