Ukrainian Enamellers

This group of enamellers came to my notice in March 2022. Oleksii Koval from Kyiv creates commanding enamel panels from a composite of etched copper enamelled pieces, often incorporating stylised portraits; Roin Khutszide from Odessa is a professional jewellery enameller specialising in plique a jour, whose family business trades under the name of Rodonit which translates as “relatives bonded by a common thread". Xenia Rodionova from Odessa is one of Roin’s young students, also largely working with plique a jour and with cloisonné to create her own beautiful jewellery collections.  Alexandra Barbalat from Kyiv is an artist-master of enamel and teaches at the Capital’s University. She is founder of the Ukraine Enamel-Art School for Young People ensuring skills are passed on to the future generation.  Maya Kotelnitskaya from Lviv designs and makes attractive contemporary enamel jewellery inspired by the natural world and the ocean. Olga Komisarova from Kyiv, is The Guild of Enameller’s 2022 Bursary Winner who finds inspiration in micro-organisms for the unusual jewellery and panels she creates.
