Cloisonne Pendant

  • Exhibition: Underwater flora and fauna - 2024
  • Description of your entry: Solid silver vitreous enamelled pendant. The pendant uses cloisonné wires, fine silver and sterling silver additions and a mix of translucent and opaque enamel.

The royal blue enamel powder has been added by hand as specks in the central panel, and to the top right deliberately to surround the seaweed. Although this was intentional, to give the impression of floating particles, in retrospect it possibly looks as though there may have been overspill rather than intention. The seaweed was pierced from fine silver and curved using a rolling mill. Tubular silver was cut and used to create the raised circles on the right - intended to suggest coral. The varying height of this coral has been challenging as it hasn't been possible to grind down around it. The tubes have been filled with opaque red enamel. The thick silver pendant takes away the need for counter-enamelling and provides a frame to the image.
