Sea Foam

  • Exhibition: General Exhibition 2024
  • Description of your entry: A framed enamel panel. I was inspired by a collection of images in a book called Sea Journal and also by many happy times watching the power and energy of the waves. The background was achieved with many layers of sieved enamels, using electrical tape to mask out the required areas, giving a precise finish to the horizon and to the rocks. Details were then added using painting enamel, applied with a very fine brush (00) and sponge painting. The sea foam has proved difficult to capture, limoges white was the key to giving effect to the lightness and translucence of the foam. The birds are also difficult to achieve, requiring careful work with a brush.
