Description of your entry:
I made lazer cut stencils inspired by my stylised sketches of the banks, stones and water ripples on the beach near to my home in Aberdeen. I used these stencils creatively to enamel nine 7 x 7 cms panels, starting fairly randomly but building the design more precisely as the work progressed, the central panel being 'fixed'. In general I went from hard to soft enamels with some hard white later to create texture and contrast through 'drop through'. The final warmer colours being fired a lower temperatures. I mounted the clock onto marine plywood and added a quartz clock mechanism having measured and drilled a suitable hole first in the middle panel to accommodate the clock shaft. I enjoyed the freedom of working in a purely abstract way, allowing the enamel colours and textures and my cut stencil shapes to dictate the balance and design of the clock.
