Cloisonné Workshop, Aberdeen
Kathleen Cowie and Pauline Davey
The Aberdeen Enamelling Group met on the weekend of 7/8th of September for a special Cloisonné two day workshop with Dorothy Cockrell.
Seven attended and worked through the processes of design, laying wire and wet enamelling the various individual sections of their designs. Many of us had not worked on silver before and Dorothy demonstrated and offered advice throughout. We all felt inspired and at times, challenged by this exacting technique.
Dorothy also gave us notes and we discussed various styles and approaches to Cloisonné, from traditional to contemporary. It was an inspiring weekend with some time put aside for dining and socialising on Saturday evening. Thanks to Carol Herbert for hosting Dorothy.
