Fine Gold and Silver Foil and Leaf with Enamel – with Sheila McDonald
When we were all gathered Sheila began by explaining the difference between leaf and foil. They both add a shimmer to enamels and work best when used under transparent enamels. Sometimes transparent colours fired over foil will appear differently if coloured gold is used so it’s always worth testing.
First of all we enamelled a couple of pieces of copper with random colours, both transparent and opaque to provide a basis for the leaf/foil.
Sheila had planned the day for us to work on leaf in the morning and foil in the afternoon. Leaf is quite fiddly and definitely not Sheila’s favourite! It comes in ‘books’ between sheets of tissue.

This is how we created our pieces in the morning.
