Region 6 met at Dartington for a workshop run by Jane Short, which was very exciting. Since I like wired cloisonné so much I wondered what the point of doing without the wires was! I learnt that this method of working with enamel creates a nice clear line on one side of the enamel colour with soft shading on the other side which can be a very effective design effect.
Jane uses 0.3 mm round silver wire which she rolls flat in the rolling mill. She then straightens it by running though her fingers and does not anneal it since she prefers it springy. The wireless technique can be used together with the traditional wires in a design.
